🏀 Trojans' Full-Court Pressure Crushes Bruins' Offensive Rhythm Tuesday, December 16, 2025 BOURBON, Ind. — Senior Gage Riffle (The Mailman) delivered a game-high 17 points and locked down Bethany Christian's top scorer as the Triton Trojans used a dominant second quarter to pull away for a 57-34 victory at the Trojan Trench. Riffle finished 6-of-8 from the field with three three-pointers while drawing the defensive assignment on Bethany Christian's Trey Caffee. The performance marked a breakthrough for Riffle, who entered the game shooting just 28% from three-point range. "He did a great job on Caffee, making him work for everything he got," head coach Jason Groves said. "We talk about the 95%. You only have the ball in your hand about 5% of the time. What are you going to do that 95%. He really stepped up and did a great job defensively and offensively as well." Sophomore Brady Wood (Brady Buckets) added 13 points, while senior Jayden Overmyer (The Jet) contributed 10 points and responded to a coach's challenge with an aggressive interior performance. "I kind of challenged Jaden a little bit," Groves said. "The last two games, he wasn't very aggressive inside and so we're like, hey, you need to show up and be aggressive inside. You're an athletic kid. Use that athleticism and look to score in there and he did a nice job with that." Overmyer scored seven of his 10 points in the fourth quarter, including a memorable circus shot late in the game where he contorted his body and flipped in an underhand layup without touching the rim. Senior point guard Landon Patrick (Master of Chaos) orchestrated the offense with six assists and eight points, while sophomore Isaac Quintana (Iceman) added six points off the bench—all from offensive rebounds. Second Quarter Surge Breaks Game Open After a competitive first quarter that saw Triton lead 13-11, the Trojans exploded for a 20-6 run in the second quarter to seize control. Triton's defensive pressure forced nine Bethany Christian turnovers in the first half, converting them into 16 points while committing just one turnover themselves. "I thought we got off to a good start and came out focused, played really well that first half," Groves said. The Trojans built a 33-17 halftime lead behind balanced scoring and relentless defensive intensity. Third Quarter Lull Bethany Christian fought back in the third quarter, outscoring Triton 13-10 to trim the deficit to 43-30. "Third quarter we kind of let our guards down a little bit," Groves said. "Got a little sloppy. Didn't execute some of the things we wanted to do. We did try to make some adjustments on some ball screen stuff and it didn't really work out too much in the third quarter. We can't have those spells where we take bad shots or we turn the ball over which we did in that third quarter." Fourth Quarter Closes Door Triton regained control in the fourth quarter with a 14-4 run. Overmyer dominated inside while Riffle provided clutch outside shooting to seal the victory. "They bounced back and had a good fourth quarter," Groves said. Bethany Christian Battles Bethany Christian (1-4) was led by 6'2" senior Trey Caffee's 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Senior Zane Parson (5'9") added eight points, while senior Jude Miller (5'9") contributed five points. "Bethany is a scrappy team that never quits and they're gritty and get after it," Groves said. "That's all you can ask out of your kids." Tough Road Ahead The victory improved Triton to 5-1 overall, but Groves knows his team faces a challenging stretch. "We have a tough stretch coming up here," Groves said. "We're at Winamac, I think they're 5-0. Then we have LaVille at home and then we have Kouts at Kouts who's I think now ranked number one in 1A. We're not going to win these games staying at this level. We got to raise our level each and every practice." Triton travels to Winamac on Friday, December 20, for a crucial HNAC matchup at 7:30 p.m. Bethany Christian will look to bounce back when they host Hoosier Plains Conference foe Lakeland Christian on Friday, December 20. • TRITON 57, BETHANY CHRISTIAN 34 At Trojan Trench BETHANY CHRISTIAN: Trey Caffee 5-11 0-0 12; Zane Parson 3-11 2-2 8; Jude Miller 2-6 0-0 5; Sawyer Beachy 2-3 0-0 4; Josh Rassi 1-3 0-0 3; Jacob Bontrager 1-1 0-0 2; Toby Mast 0-2 0-0 0; Gideon Miller 0-2 0-0 0.
