The Triton Athletic Department is proud to announce the next class to be inducted into the Triton Athletic Hall of Fame. The class of 2026 will be the thirteenth class inducted. Since the school's inception during the 1963-1964 school year, many athletes have worn the blue and gold. While all athletes have played a role in Triton’s success, the Hall of Fame will recognize those Trojans who set themselves apart on the playing field and the courts of Triton High School and beyond. These athletes have distinguished themselves in high school, college, and some, at the professional level. To honor these high school sports legends, the Triton Athletic Department will induct new members into the ranks of the Triton Athletic Hall of Fame every other year. The class of 2026 will include 2 inductees. Jim Shively will be inducted as a coach, and the 2001 Baseball Team will be inducted for winning the State Championship. Triton Athletic Director Rodney Younis said, "The selection committee did an outstanding job selecting the Class of 2026. The selection process is always difficult, but the committee came to an agreement with this being the 25th anniversary of Triton’s baseball state championship, it is the perfect time to induct the team as well as Coach Jim Shively.” The 2001 Boys Baseball team had a regular season record of 17 wins and 10 losses, while finishing the season with an overall record of 24-10. They played in the LaCrosse Sectional winning comfortably over Culver Community and South Central (Union Mills). In the Sectional championship game the Trojans came away victorious beating sectional host LaCrosse 6-5. In the 2 game Regional, Triton beat Ft. Wayne Blackhawk 10-4 in the first game. Triton earned their trip to Indianapolis by defeating Washington Township 2-1 en route of winning the Regional Championship. The format in 2001 was to play Friday for the Semifinals and Saturday for the State Championship. The Trojans defeated Madison Shawe 1-0 to advance to the State Championship game against Adams Central. Triton earned its first-ever boys state championship with a dominating score of 13-0. Members of the 2001 State Championship baseball team included: Head Coach Jim Shively, Assistant Coach Dave Shively, Assistant Coach Ted Doty, and Assistant Coach Randy Cripe. Players: Tyler Hensley, Todd Blackford, Joe Potter, Brent Savill, Hager Holbrook, Adam Wanemacher, Daniel Kuhn, Matt Norman, Landon Grubbs, Jay Wagoner, Braxton Barton, Bryan Watkins, Jake Burnett, Cory Ellinger, and Tyson Blackford. While a student at Triton, he participated in Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track. After high school Jim went on to college and played 4 years for Bethel College. While there he was a part of their National Champions baseball team, and earned All American Honorable Mention. Coach Shively spent 17 years coaching a variety of sports. He coached 11 years at Triton. He coached his first stint as head baseball coach from 1994-2001. Coach Shively came back to lead the program for his 2nd stint from 2010-2012. Jim Shively finished with 173 wins in 11 seasons as a head coach. He was a 4-time Plymouth Pilot Coach of the Year, 2-time NSC Coach of the Year, and 1-time 1A State Coach of the Year. He led his teams to 2 NSC Championships (‘97,’01), 2 Sectional Championships (‘00, ‘01), and the first ever boys State Championship in 2001. The Hall of Fame weekend will kick off with recognition of these inductees at halftime of the Triton vs Knox boys varsity basketball game on Friday, Feb. 27th. The tip-off for the JV game that evening is scheduled for 6:30 pm EST. The festivities will be continued during the Induction Banquet on Feb. 28th.
