They are led by three seniors and the Trojans are ranked 2nd in the state in Indiana's smallest class. This little program has big dreams. In Bourbon, there’s a field and a dream. “The potential was there. They put in the work every day and showed up. It really changed the program how they changed it day-to-day,” said Mark Elliott, Triton Head Coach. Three Triton players: Drew Bingamon, Braxton Kaufman and Maddox Dennie joined a Trojans baseball team as freshmen that had only four wins the year prior. Four years later, they’re the only seniors on the team, are 13-2 and the No. 2 team in Class 1A. When you first came into this program, what was your impression. “Not very good,” said Maddox Dennie, Senior Outfielder. “Looking back to last year, we barely lost the regional championship. Freshman and sophomore year, we would’ve never guessed we would’ve been in that spot,” said Drew Bingamon. But for this coaching staff and three seniors, it showed that if you build it, they will come. “We had players coming up from junior-high that wanted to play baseball and wanted to win games. The winning attitude really helped us. My freshman year, [the prior teams] didn’t care about winning. They just wanted to play baseball. These guys that are sophomores now, bring [a winning attitude] to the table,” said Braxton Kaufman, Senior Pitcher and SS. Triton now chases success. They are reaching levels of the state tournament no other team has done before. “The ceiling is that we can compete with any team. Before it was always like, ‘Oh Caston and Winamac. We wish these games get canceled.’ Now we want to keep playing these games, getting better opponents and always never have fear of who we’re playing,” said Maddox. “This is where they're meant to be. They come here every day with a smile on their face, and they love to be around each other. Sometimes you have that group that is talented but is ready for the season to be over. Sometimes you have the group that is not talented, but you love being around the guys. This is the rare case where you have the best of both,” said Elliott.
