WINAMAC — Chloe McKinney finished one stroke away from medalist honors as the Triton girls golf team placed fourth in the 10-team Winamac Invitational Tuesday at Moss Creek Golf Club. McKinney led the Lady Trojans with a round of 100. North Judson’s Avaleigh Wright earned medalist honors with a 99. Sydney Heckaman followed McKinney with a 106, giving Triton two of the tournament’s strongest individual performances. Brooke Kitch added a 111, and Alexis Young completed the Lady Trojans’ team score with a 138. Triton finished with a 455, just five strokes behind third-place Pioneer and 15 strokes behind runner-up McCutcheon. North Judson won the tournament with a team score of 420. The fourth-place finish came one day after Triton opened its season with an 18-hole match against Rochester and Winamac at Round Barn Golf Club. The Winamac Invitational featured a unique format designed to promote team building and provide additional opportunities for coaching. Instead of grouping golfers according to their position in each team’s lineup, all of a team’s players competed together on the same holes. This allowed Triton’s golfers to remain together throughout the round while competing against a field of 10 teams. Next, Triton will host North Miami and Whitko on Monday, Aug. 10, at Rozella Golf Club. The three-team match is scheduled to begin at 5 pm. -------- Winamac Invitational At Moss Creek Golf Club Team results: North Judson 420, McCutcheon 440, Pioneer 450, Triton 455, Fort Wayne Luers 468, Caston 477, Winamac 479, North Judson JV 480, Knox 518, Hebron 532.
